Building Vocabulary: 2015 Hump Day Book Club Reading List

Building_VocabularyHappy Friday!

So it was brought to my attention at book club on Wednesday that I never published our reading list this year! HDBC enters our 5th year with an interesting reading list put together. We’re looking forward to a couple of easy reads, a couple of older books, a couple of member favorites, and hopefully many lively discussions in the coming year.

Our January book was Asking for Trouble by Elizabeth Young, presented by Elana, who we also showered this last meeting with children’s books to build her soon-to-arrive first born’s library. Among the titles were some classic children’s books by Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle and the like.

Though it was a quick easy read, we had a great discussion about parenting, and the influence mothers can have on children – specifically daughters. The main character and her mother’s relationship was one of extreme expectations which very much shaped her sense of self – an excellent topic for discussion among our chatty group of ladies. If you’ve seen the movie, The Wedding Date, with Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney, it was loosely based on Asking for Trouble.

If you’d like to read with us, here is our list for the year:
