Wedding Wednesday | I Love Weddings {and Peonies}

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

{Our Wedding Cake by Kristi LeFevre | Doodle Dots Designs, Anderson, SC}

I love weddings. I loved Van’s and my wedding.  I love other peoples weddings. I love wedding magazines, wedding decor, dresses and {hair}dos, wedding flowers, favors, cakes, crafts, and especially wedding stationery. Granted, there are a lot of marked up, overpriced, ridiculously expensive products and services for weddings out there, but when it comes down to it. I really do love weddings. Always have. I am absolutely a hopeless romantic, so I love anything that celebrates love. I myself have also always been a blend of willing-to-get-my-hands-dirty and loving-to-get-gussied-up though.

2nd Grade Bday

{My 8 year-old-birthday party; all gussied up for tea – I’m in the teal dress and mink shawl}

I especially love weddings that creatively reflect the bride and groom.

When I was in second grade, I flew for the first time with my Mom, Grandma, Grandpa and Uncle Jeff to Anchorage, Alaska for my Aunt Bonny and Uncle Mike’s May wedding. It was the first wedding I was ever in, and it was love at first sight. They had a ribbon canopy strung over the atrium of a museum that my Uncle Mike designed. {He’s an amazing architect}. Pink flamingos were sprinkled throughout the planters, an art deco cake made a beautiful statement, and FABULOUS pot luck spread are just a few of the eclectic, perfect-for-them details from their day, not to mention the dancing. I danced, and danced, and danced. As a flower girl, I came down the center staircase, which served as the aisle, with several other girls in varying ages and varying shades of pink waving ribbon streamers like rhythmic gymnasts in lieu of sprinkling flower petals. Aunt Bonny was a beautiful bride in an ivory knee length number carrying Star Gazer lilies and wearing one in her hair – which also happens to be one of my most favorite flowers.

I wish I had kept all of my bridesmaid’s dresses over the years; I would have made them into a multi-colored, multi-textured quilt. I have certainly worn an assortment of colors: lavender, hot pink, black (x2), red, orange (x2), navy blue (x2), chocolate brown, green, and vintage rose. Think Katherine Heigl in 27 Dresses with way less tackiness.

Weddings, like people, come in all shapes and sizes, and the ultimate goal that day is that the bride and groom join their lives together as one, committing to each other to love an cherish one another and work together at this adventure called life. The details, really, are just details, and the commitment is the real reason for the day. Like remembering the reason for the season at Christmas, we must always remember to cherish the importance of the wedding day beyond the dresses and details. However, the details can be SO. MUCH. FUN.

Like the Creative Home series I started last week, I’ve been mulling over this series for a while, so I’m excited to get it going! {Really it gives me an excuse to peruse the wedding ideas on Pinterest, other awesome blogs, and read Martha Stewart Weddings, y’all}. Each week on Wednesday, I’ll feature something wedding related – maybe a curated collection of wedding ideas, a How-To, photos from a creative wedding, a new stationery suite, or even something like my previous post, A DIY Wedding | Choosing Our Wedding Colors.

That said, here’s your first dose of Wedding Wednesday goodies from The Olive Shoe. Inspired by the gorgeous ones blooming in my yard this week, a curated collection of stunning peony bouquets for inspiration for your coming wedding (or just, if you’re like me, for fun-to-look-at-ness). Enjoy!
