China cabinets are interesting pieces of furniture. They are time capsules that displays a unique perspective of one’s life. China cabinets originated in England when Queen Mary wanted to display her vast collection of dishes (china). Today people (especially in the US) have continued this tradition. I love looking at what people choose to display in their China cabinets… are they old fine china? Are they new china? Do they display other artifacts? Has the china cabinet been updated? Painted? Recently I decided to refinish my china cabinet and it made me reflect on the items I have displayed in them.
I decided to repaint my cabinet first since it was looking too dark and oversized on the wall it is on. I did some research on the best way to refinish the cabinet. Here are some of the pictures I looked at for inspiration.
Here are some picture of the steps I took to repaint the cabinet, and here are the final results.

{After Final Painting and Reorganizing}
I am really pleased with the final look, especially the rearranging and addition of some great family pieces. Here are some of the my favorite pieces in my cabinet.
{My Great Great Uncle Arthur’s Grandmother’s China}
{My Grandmother-In-Laws Hand Painted Dishes and Pitchers}
{My Grandmother’s Childhood Play Tea Set}
{My Wedding Plate Given by Dear Family Friends}
I love the new look of my china cabinet. It has lightened up the wall and made for a much better display case, especially with the addition of the lights! So use your china cabinet for what it is meant for… to display some prized possessions that you want to see daily!
