New Year New Home Color | Continuing the Home Update

As you know we have slowly been updating the exterior of our home. We first added the rock portion. Then we painted the trim to give our home a quick update. We then got serious about painting the exterior of our home by painting our shed first. After painting the shed, we began to look into painting our home. Due to the multiple levels, chimney and windows we decided that hiring someone to paint it would be the better choice for our health. After lots of research, we are really pleased with the results.

Our Inspiration – We looked at many homes and sites for inspiration. I wanted to stay true to the house’s original color by staying in the blue family. But I also wanted the color to not fade in the sun as badly as the first color did. Here are some of the looks we used for inspiration!

Prepare – First we talked to our Sherwin-Williams representative about the type of paint needed for our home. Then we had our home pressure-washed. We replaced any rotten boards and had all the seems caulked. Luckily, the house was fairly easily prepared and ready for painting.

Painting – The painting, on the other hand, was pretty difficult. The pressure-washing had taken off a good bit of paint. Also, the paint had never been refreshed so it was in pretty bad shape. Finally, due to the sheen of the paint, it showed all of the mistakes and soft spots. After two coats of paint, there were still some spots to be seen. But in the end, everything came together and the house looks totally updated!

Although this was a long and costly venture, it was well worth it. Our home looks updated, wood has been restored, and we love that we have made our own personal touch on the exterior of our home. It truly is amazing the power of paint has to transform your home. What have you done to change your home recently?
