My New Passion | House Plants

I have always loved house plants. Recently I have been doing more research and wanted to add more plants in my home. My mother-in-law also has the most amazing house plants, and don’t even get me started on my grandmother-in-law’s orchids! My SIL is also pretty fantastic at cultivating plants in her home as well. I finally decided to take the plunge and began to add several houseplants to my home. I usually have some kind of cut flowers (a reminder of my grandmother) – but now I have my own house plants and they make me so happy. Most notably, it has made my favorite corner of my home even better. Here are the steps I took to implement house plants in our home.

Propagating Succulents – My dear SIL and mother of The Olive Shoe, Lauren Carlisle James, taught me how to propagate succulents and this is where it all began. I have succulents in planters that were becoming overcrowded and needed to be moved. I also wanted to add some new ones to the mix. Lauren gave me some clippings of her varieties that I didn’t have and it was off to the races. It was shockingly easy to do and now I have the cutest little baby succulents!

Choosing Containers – Honestly, I don’t need super ornate planters. I really do love the traditional terra cotta pots – especially the tiny ones. But I also really like unconventional planters and oddly shaped containers as well. So I collected and shopped for planters that brought joy (yes the Japenese method). After all, I want these plants to bring me a smile. I then grabbed some rocks from the yard and from other stores to help set up my terrariums and planters. In the end, I really love every planter that I have brought home.

Final Looks – After I planted a lot of the plants I had a few more spots to fill. I wanted something on the top of the shelf, and I also needed some air plants for some specific planters, and lastly, a few plants that just needed to be part of my home. In the end, the way everything turned out is better than I could have imagined. I love every shelf and element that is included.

After living with the new plant arrangement for a couple of weeks, I really love everything that I have added to my home. Everyday I just love looking to see how the plants have grown, changed, and take care of them. I can’t wait to add more plants to our home and cultivate more of my succulent babies for all my friends. What kind of plant babies do you have to bring joy to you in your home?
