My Whole 30 Journey

After having children your body isn’t the same. Period. Body parts hang differently, hair is in strange locations and has a different texture, your skin may change, even your scent may change. Regardless, things get weird. And let’s face it – it’s not terribly surprising considering that you just grew and birthed a human (or two or more). Your body has been through a traumatic experience and it has changed. Now after I had my girls, I still looked pregnant. I had gained a TON of weight and it has been near impossible to get off. I exercise 5+ times a week, I eat healthy low carb diet with counting calories. I limit my drinking etc… Nothing has worked. So I decided maybe my body needed a cleanse and I decided to do Whole 30.

I had heard a LOT about Whole30 over the years. I haven’t done much research though because I really didn’t think I could do it and certainly not make it a lifestyle for me. So after all of these failed attempts to lose weight and keep it off – I decided why not! It’s worth a shot. So I began gathering and testing recipes, researching the “rules” of food, and started to plan. There is never really a good time to start Whole30 so I decided why not start with the 1st of August. It was the beginning of school and a new routine so lets do it! 

Honestly I was pretty surprised at how easy the diet changes were. I eat pretty clean mostly so it was really not to difficult to switch to Whole30. I never went through the “cleanse” phase but I definitely hit the lack of energy and the energy boost phases of Whole30. I think what I missed most was eating cheese, peanut butter and drinking alcohol. But honestly I wasn’t dying without those items. I made it 26 days before I caved and had some peanut butter. I would definitely do this program again. I didn’t see a loss of weight, but I definitely lost a bunch of inches – which in the grand scheme of things is way more important.

I had a pretty easy time cooking with my family. I did have bone broth protein shakes for breakfast – even though this isn’t entirely Whole30 friendly – it was fast and this is what I needed for life purposes. Lunches were also mostly leftovers and that was great too. I always made sure that I made enough dinner for two additional lunches so this way I could rotate what I was eating. Listed below were my favorite recipes. 

This recipe was my favorite – but it definitely needs some tweaking. I believe the pasta needs some kind of fat content. When I perfect it, I will come back to update!

In the end, I didn’t see a lot of difference in weight change. But I did lose a lot of inches and it severely cut my unhealthy cravings. I am really glad that I did Whole30 and I would definitely recommend it and even do it again. I love these recipes and look forward to making them in the future. I hope your family enjoys them as much as we do!
